Literal interpretation

This brief article will evaluate the uses and misuses of general revelation in biblical hermeneutics. After defining terms, I will highlight areas in hermeneutics where the use of general revelation can be beneficial, as well as areas where misuse can and does occur. Overall, I’ll argue that a proper understanding of general revelation is indispensable in the determination of its proper use in hermeneutics.

The interpreter of Revelation is not to spiritualize God’s word. God said what He meant and meant what He said. The Bible student must determine the literal meaning God intended when He wrote the original texts. Here we stand. We cannot, we must not be moved.

In the world of evangelicalism, pastors, missionaries, evangelists, professors, theologians, and laypeople have a worldview, so to speak, of how to approach the task of interpreting the Bible. In other words, we all have a starting point in regard to hermeneutics.
