God sees to it that when the whole man prays, in turn the whole man shall be blessed. His body takes in the good of praying, for much praying is done specifically for the body. Food and raiment, health and bodily vigor, come in answer to praying. Clear mental action, right thinking, an enlightened understanding, and safe reasoning powers, come from praying. Divine guidance means God so moving and impressing the mind, that we shall make wise and safe decisions.

Life and ministry are often accompanied by a crucible of various trials and tribulations, and because of the nature of the flesh, we become vulnerable to various temptations. Jesus declared as much to the disciples, “Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” To what and to whom do you turn in such seasons? To the flesh or to the Spirit? To the Lord and His resources, or to a focus on the failures of others in your life?

Prayer is something we generally associate with desperation. We go through life saying, “I will depend upon my plans and my own resources.” However, at a moment of crisis and desperation -when I’ve run out of time and opportunity; when human strength and ingenuity has failed me; and all other options are exhausted, that’s the time I throw up a prayer.

The believer who is truly concerned about engaging in prayer for world evangelism will feel the weight of the attacks of Satan, they will feel the weight of what it means to glorify God, and they will feel the weight of the need to be refreshed. When believers live in this reality, the cause of prayer and world evangelism will align together for the honor and glory of Christ.

As you consider re-examining the priority of prayer in your pastoral work, consider these six prayerful principles. May you fully realize and experience all that the Lord intends for your ministry unto Him and His people. And may your time in prayer become theologically richer and profoundly more intimate.

Prayer and fasting takes my eyes off of my selfish ambitions and foolish pride. It forces the eyes of this spiritual man to look toward the face of his Redeemer. It is in the promises of Jesus revealed in His Word where hope is found. The power of prayer and fasting is found in its ability to provide focus on Christ as we earnestly petition for His favor, blessing, and revival.

Praying for revival is radical because true revival is radical. It encompasses Christians who have become discouraged or complacent to be renewed to spiritual vibrancy and those spiritually dead being awakened to life.

As God’s children, each of us must consistently pray for ourselves and others in all those times of personal crisis; those times will surely come, and prayer enables us to meet them by God’s grace and through His provisions.
